Slitherlink: how a round works

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Slitherlink. Draw one closed loop whose edges match the count around every numbered cell. Look at what changes after your first action. Read the objective before making your first input. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Ten 4×4 loop puzzles with all cell clues shown.

Something to practise

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

The purpose of your moves

Draw one closed loop whose edges match the count around every numbered cell. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Keep the controls in easy reach.

The steps to play

  1. Click an edge to draw, exclude or clear it.
  2. Count the four edges around each cell.
  3. Do not branch or form separate loops.
  4. Check puzzle verifies every clue and loop connectivity.

Making selections and moves

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

See the idea in action

A 0 cell has no loop edge around it; a 3 has exactly three. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Look for the relevant detail.

Pay attention to this rule

Several small loops are invalid even if clues match. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
